‘Spider-Man’ actor Tom Holland will star in a movie based on PlayStation’s popular Uncharted series, sharing many similarities to the classic franchise “Indiana Jones” - where it actually got its main inspiration from. His role will be as the protagonist Nathan Drake, a charismatic yet rebellious treasure hunter that claims to be a descendant of legendary English explorer Sir Francis Drake.

The film will serve as a prequel to the games, while revealing the origins of Nathan Drake and his fellow companion Victor Sullivan (played by Mark Wahlberg). This might explain why the producers chose Holland to portray Drake, as he looks much older than him in the games. The protagonists will learn the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city and uncover its treasures.

The film is set to be released on July 16, 2021 after much rescheduling due to crew changes and other circumstances. They started shooting on March 16, 2929 in areas around Berlin, before shutting down completely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed production on July 20 with social distancing and mask requirements implemented on and off the set.

Besides Holland and Wahlberg, the film also features Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabrielle as part of the cast, while Ruben Fleischer - from Zombieland, Venom and Gangster Squad fame - is directing the film.

Fans all over the world will not get a regular video-game adaptation, and instead will enjoy additional content to the PlayStation titles - while those new to the franchise won’t have to worry about missing out on context! Talk about cool, right?
