Everyone can enjoy Warsaw

With the rise of the so-called smart cities, visually impaired people can help them live more independently both indoors or in a public space. Equipping a city with internet-connected devices and artificial intelligence can improve services and how they get around, such is the case of Poland’s capital Warsaw,

In this European city the visually impaired are assisted by ‘Virtual Warsaw’, a smart city project in which a network of beacon sensors sends people real-time information about their surroundings to their phone via Bluetooth, including buildings, bus stops and number of arriving trains.

Independence for visually impaired folks

There is also a support system for the visually impaired to feel more independent in public spaces and in the labor market. Trainings, career consultations and internships are just some of the services provided, as well as a helpline to help them navigate the city.

Although still in pilot mode, ‘Virtual Warsaw’ is already increasing the wellbeing for those using it, and governments throughout the world are starting to take notice of such initiatives. Soon, we will see cities implement such technologies for their own and continue to provide their citizens a high-quality lifestyle.

Smart cities are the future

Smart cities are revolutionizing how people live, communicate and interact with their environments. Other example of these cities are Dubai, New York, Singapore and Seoul, and it’s only a matter of time before the list expands all around the world! Wouldn’t you love for your city to be the next smart one?
