Don’t we all love Disney classics?

With the release of this year’s ‘Dumbo’, ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Lion King’, Disney has marked a trend into remaking their animated classics into live-action films featuring real actors and modern virtual cinematography technology.

Going back to 1994, Disney began developing these remakes with the first installment of ‘The Jungle Book’-which saw yet another version in 2016. Next came the iconic ‘101 Dalmatians’ in 1996, starring Glenn Close and Jeff Daniels, and ‘102 Dalmatians’ in 2000. Audiences had to wait 10 years for another remake, and it was ‘Alice in Wonderland’-directed by Tim Burton- that saw a resurge on these kinds of films.

What has the 21st century brought our way?

As years have passed, the world has witnessed remakes of ‘Cinderella’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, as well as spin off from classics like ‘Maleficent’, taken from 1959’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’, and ‘Christopher Robin’, taken from the Winnie the Pooh films.

Will we see any other Disney classics taken to another level?

With 10 releases in 9 years, Disney doesn’t plan to stop as they already have 12 new films being produced for both theatrical and Disney+ exclusive releases in the next months and years. Titles include ‘Mulan’, ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Cruella’, while ‘Lady and the Tramp’ and ‘The Sword in the Stone’ are set to be Disney’s first two Disney+ exclusive releases.

We can definitely expect to see all of our childhood favorite features brought to life. Remains to be seen if this is actually a good thing or a killjoy!
