Earlier this month, Microsoft announced the new products that will be released throughout the holiday season and talked about their plans for their new Surface Duo phone, set to be released next year.

With a promise to deliver a higher quality product than Apple’s current MacBooks, Microsoft’s annual hardware event saw a total of seven new products in development:

  • Surface Laptop 3: It uses Intel’s latest 10th generation processor, said to be 3x more powerful than a MacBook Air. It also charges up to 80% in less than an hour and its made out of aluminum with a larger trackpad than its predecessor. It comes in 13.5-inch and 15-inch sizes.

  • Surface Pro X: It features a 13-inch tablet with a detachable keyboard. This elegant device is very light and runs on the Qualcomm chip which has 7W of power.

  • Surface Pro 7: While similar in appearance to last year’s moder, this tablet/laptop hybrid has a new USB-C port and improved microphones. It can also charge up to 90A% in one hour and runs on Intel’s 10th generation chip as well.

  • Surface Earbuds: A direct competition to Apple’s AirPods, these headphones offer 24 hours of battery life and can be controlled by gestures to play, pause, skip or change the volume.

For next year, we shall keep our eyes open for the upcoming foldable Surface Duo phone with two screens which runs on Android. It will feature two 5.6 inch displays and has a 360-degree hinge. Also the Surface Neo, a two-screened laptop which will also run on Google’s Android operating system -rather than Microsoft Windows- shows that Microsoft is aiming towards mobile and cloud-based products for their future!

After the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, the MCU ended what is known as the Phase 3 of the superhero films, and is now focusing on a new set of movies coming in the next years for both television and cinemas.

By 2021, the following movies will have come out in cinemas:

Black Widow (2020): Finally, Natasha Romanoff -played by Scarlett Johansson- will have her own feature film, after years of appearing as a supporting character in the Avengers. The film will be set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, and will explore the backstory of this superhero. Black Widow is set to be released on May 1, 2020.

The Eternals (2020): The film follows the story of the Eternals, an immortal alien race sent to Earth to protect humanity from the evil Deviants. The cast features Angelina Jolie and Gemma Chan -who previously portrayed Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel. The film is set to be released on November 6, 2020.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021): Shang-Chi is a superhero who can create countless duplicates of himself and joins the Avengers. While it could be the title of a sci-fi magazine story, it is an actual possibility that Enceladus, one of Saturn’s moons, could have everything needed to host life. Out of Saturn’s 53 moons, Europa and Enceladus are the only two with the necessary conditions to support life systems, but as of today we can’t still confirm that we’ll meet Saturn aliens any time soon.

What challenges these moons to sustain life?

While still considered as “potentially habitable”, Europa and Enceladus exist outside of the Solar System’s circumstellar habitable zone, which define the limits of life within the solar system in which water can exist as a liquid at the surface and sustain an atmosphere. If life was to exist in either moon, it would be confined to subsurface habitats.

What gives us the idea there could be life on Enceladus?

Scientists from the Southwest Research Institute (SWRI) discovered complex carbon-rich molecules from the liquid ocean beneath Enceladus’ icy surface, which makes it the only body in the Solar System besides Earth to contain all requirements for hosting life.

What about Europa?

The supposed smoothness and recent existence of Europa’s surface have led scientists to believe that a liquid water ocean exists beneath it, which could harbor life in an environment similar to Earth’s deep-ocean hydrothermal vents.

While we are still on baby steps, scientists are already planning missions to provide more in-depth analysis of both moons’ plumes and what kind of biological processes are happening there.

Saturn’s Moons

This month the world will experience the release of the much-anticipated Joker film starring legendary actor Joaquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips. This psychological thriller is the perfect opportunity for Phoenix to showcase his acting abilities, which have been already praised in numerous films and nominated to three Academy Awards.

Let’s review some of Phoenix’s most notable works in Hollywood:

Her (2013): This science-fiction romantic drama follows the passionate relationship between Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) and Samantha, an artificially intelligent virtual assistant personified through a female voice (Scarlett Johansson). In this film we can appreciate Phoenix’ acting skills when interacting with Her through a small device.

The Master (2012): This film tells the story of a WWII veteran struggling to adjust to life after the war. Phoenix’s powerful acting as Freddie Quell shows the reality of post-war American soldiers and the damage it has done in their minds.

Gladiator (2000): Perhaps one of Joaquin Phoenix’s most notable works is this epic historical drama directed by Ridley Scott. Critics praised Phoenix’s acting as Commodus, the amoral and twisted son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, as he fights against Maximus Decimus Meridius played by Russel Crowe.

Walk The Line (2005): Phoenix portrays Johnny Cash in this biographical drama film and his romance with June Carter (Reese Witherspoon), as he ascends in the country music scene as one of the most influential artists. Both Phoenix’s and Witherspoon’s performances were well received by critics, as they sing, lay instruments and show great chemistry on film.

Galaxies are one of the universe’s biggest observable systems. Big galaxies like our own Milky Way have all its stars move around supermassive black holes at their center, and are used to “eating up” smaller galaxies in their path. But just as the bigger fish eats the smaller ones, we are at the mercy of the gigantic Andromeda Galaxy, which is on a course to merge with the Milky Way in around 4.5 billion years from now.

Binge-Eating Galaxy

Andromeda has a bigger and more complex stellar halo than our galaxy, and has cannibalized multiple galaxies in “binge-eating” frenzies at least twice in the last 10 billion years. This monstrous neighbor will eventually swallow up our home galaxy too, and right now scientists are finding out how this will happen.

How can we see this?

Even though the Andromeda Galaxy is 2,537 million light years away from Earth, scientists can observe its phenomena by using five different telescopes. Researchers have also been able to recreate Andromeda’s history by analyzing Andromeda’s dense group of stars.

No need to panic

While the idea of seeing our galaxy absorbed by the Andromeda Galaxy seems terrifying enough, humanity will first have to deal with the Sun expanding and swallowing each planet in our Solar System at a time. So for the moment just sit back, and relax and enjoy the title things in life.
