Morbius

After announcing plans for a new shared universe of films inspired by Spider-Man characters that began with ‘Venom’ in 2018, ‘Morbius’ is set to be the third installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) after ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ in 2021. This upcoming film is directed by Swedish director Daniel Espinoza and stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius, a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease who attempts to cure himself with a form of vampirism.

This is the second character in a super-hero film that Leto has played, after the disappointing reviews of ‘Suicide Squad’ (2016) where he played as The Joker. It also features Matt Smith as Loxias Crown, Morbius’ friend who suffers from the same blood disease, and Tyrese Gibson as Simon Stroud, an FBI agent hunting Morbius.

Additionally, Michael Keaton will reprise his role as Vulture from the Marvel Cinematic Universe film ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. This is part of Sony’s agreement with Disney (Marvel’s parent company) to extend their previous deal to keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and cross cinematic universes with the “Avengers” timeline.

The film is set to be released in the United States on January 28, 2022 after being delayed from its initial July 2020 date due to the pandemic.

Spider-Man Multiverse

This month’s teaser trailer for Marvel’s next feature film “Spider-Man: No Way Home” shattered “Avengers: Endgame” 24 hour viewership records with 355.5 million views over 289. The trailer confirmed one of the most followed fan theories of the upcoming film to be released on December 17 which has Tom Holland’s Peter Parker plunging deep into Marvel’s multiverse with characters and actors from previous Spider-Man adaptations appearing back in this one.

Such is the case of Alfred Molina reprising his role as Doctor Octopus from the 2004’s ‘Spider-Man 2’ movie. Other confirmed returning characters include Jamie Foxx coming back as Electro and Willem Dafoe as the legendary Norman Osborn/Green Goblin from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy.

As part of the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, Benedict Cumberbatch will also feature as Dr. Strange who takes the role as Peter Parker’s mentor after Tony Stark’s death in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The film, which was directed by Jon Watts, has Parker seeking help from Dr. Strange to try and fix the events from the previous film ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ as his reputation is turned upside down following his identity being exposed by Mysterio.

Given that several villains from previous films are coming back for this version, fans are also expecting to see former Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield coming back and have a role of some sort in ‘No Way Home’.

Revised PS5 Model

Less than a year after Sony’s release of the PS5, the Japan-based company has quietly launched a revised model with a few differences from the original. Reports from different sources have noted that the new model includes a new screw for the base that no longer requires a screwdriver so it can be adjusted at hand for a much easier adjustment.

Additionally, this updated model is also around 300 grams lighter than the original, and is being shipped to Australia and the United States in the coming months. Earlier reports had suggested that these changes were only going to alter the digital version of the console, but it now seems that also the disc edition of the PS5 will also feature these changes.

Even though these might not seem relevant changes for some, these are good news for those waiting to get their hands on the new console as it seems that perhaps a bigger supply of stock is moving forward - given its shortage in the last few months.

Sony is also planning to release a new software update with improvements to the PS5 dashboard UI, 3D audio support for TV speakers and better enhancement for the PS5 versions of last-generation games. Furthermore, the update will also rollout a removable SSD for expandable storage of games.

The Largest Rocket Ever Built

SpaceX has recently put together the biggest rocket ever constructed called “Starship” and its booster unit called “Super Heavy”. The rocket stands roughly 400ft (120m) in height, making it the largest ever built after Apollo's famous Saturn V, and when it eventually lifts off it will produce almost twice the thrust of the first ones that sent people to the Moon.

As of now, the five largest rockets besides the Starship and the Saturn V (used from 1969 to 1973) are the Chinese N1 (1969 to 1972), Nasa’s SLS (which was completed this year) and the Delta IV Heavy (used from 2004 up to this day). Once fully developed, the Starship will be capable of taking humans to the Moon and Mars without any problem, and it could also ferry people quickly around the globe.

There are still months of testing ahead before scheduling its inaugural flight, but SpaceX is already planning on hurling the Starship into space for a trip around the Earth while keeping all detachable segments of the rocket for re-use, through controlled touchdowns on land or sea platforms.

The Starship will also succeed the Falcon Heavy, also a SpaceX rocket, as the most powerful ever built, which produces 23 meganewtons of thrust at launch and is already capable of reaching beyond Mars orbit.
