Winter is a beautiful season for many reasons - Christmas is around the corner, beautiful scenery can be seen all around and we get to wear our beloved winter coats that for the rest of the year get buried in our closet. But winter is also synonym with catching the flu as the cold weather affects the body's immune system decreasing the body’s defenses against infection, as well as less natural vitamin D as a result of shorter days.

Thankfully, there are some guidelines that experts recommend to prevent illness in the coming months. Some of the most important ones are:

  • Wash your hands: Make sure to wash your hands more frequently than normal, especially if around of people with colds. If you’re on an office or in school, germs can get easily transferred from people sneezing or by opening a door that a carrier touched, so make sure to thoroughly wash your hands as frequent as you can.

  • Exercise: It might be discouraging not to be able to take your regular walk in the neighborhood in winter, but regular exercise keeps up with your immune system. With just 30 minutes of physical activity - even at home - can really make a difference!

  • Get some sleep: Getting enough rest allows your body to recover. When the body gets itself run down, it becomes more prone to infections and germs to take hold. Sleep 8 hours a night for better results!

  • Eat right: Take vitamin-packed food like lemons, kale, broccoli, avocados and beans. Don’t just rely on supplements, as food has more variety and quality nutrients for your body!

Ways to Prevent a Cold This Winter

On the day Disney+ launched, more than 10 million subscribers signed up thanks to its affordable price and its huge content throughout the Disney library. Old classics, as well as Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and even Fox content like The Simpsons are part of their entertainment catalog.

The service has been made available for users in the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands, with Australia, New Zealand and Puerto Rico following soon as well. Other significant markets like the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Ireland will have to wait until the end of March 2020 to enjoy the new streaming platform.

Since one of Disney’s objectives is to compete against industry-giant Netflix, the service will focus on creating high quality shows in hopes to create a following on some of their originals. The most viewed show as of now is ‘The Mandalorian’, focusing on a bounty hunter after the event of Star Wars’ Return of the Jedi. Other hits include the spinoff show ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’, and documentary series ‘The World According to Jeff Goldblum’ where the actor explores the world as part of National Geographic partnership with Disney.

Moving forward, it will be amusing to see what changes and additions Disney+ will implement in the coming year, as it prepares to expand to the rest of the world and to take the streaming industry’s crown. 2020 already sounds Disney-citing!

2019 has been an amazing year in terms of quality films and breathtaking acting performances. With the year coming soon to a close, let’s take a look to the best and most thrilling movies that inspired thousands of people and broke box office records:

Ford vs Ferrari: The Disney’s bet to win an Oscar in a movie this year comes in form of the story between Ford and Ferrari in the late ‘60s, as they raced to build a car to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Featuring Matt Damon and Christian Bale as racers Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles, respectively.

Avengers: Endgame: The closing chapter of Phase 3 became the highest grossing movie of all time, and features action-packed scenes and a memorable ending to the movie as the Avengers restore the damage that Thanos created from the previous movie: Infinity War.

Midsommar: This horror film is like no other before, as it focuses on light - rather than darkness - to create a Terrifying atmosphere for the viewers. Set in a Swedish commune, a group of college students get involved with a scary cult, in a place surrounded by death, cult rites and sacrifices.

Joker: Joaquin Phoenix’ flawless performance is a chilling portrayal of one of Hollywood’s most recognized villains. The tragic and shocking story of how Arthur Fleck, a mentally ill stand-up comedian disregarded by society that ultimately inspires an uprising of crime in Gotham.

The Irishman: Netflix’ collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro is a gangster movie reminiscent of Goodfellas or Taxi Driver. Following a truck driver-turned-hit man over the span of 40 years, de-aging technology help make Robert De Niro as a young man in this three-and-a-half-hour film.

There are still a few weeks left before the year is over, perhaps we’ll be seeing even more special films worth mentioning!

While it could be the title of a sci-fi magazine story, it is an actual possibility that Enceladus, one of Saturn’s moons, could have everything needed to host life. Out of Saturn’s 53 moons, Europa and Enceladus are the only two with the necessary conditions to support life systems, but as of today we can’t still confirm that we’ll meet Saturn aliens any time soon.

What challenges these moons to sustain life?

While still considered as “potentially habitable”, Europa and Enceladus exist outside of the Solar System’s circumstellar habitable zone, which define the limits of life within the solar system in which water can exist as a liquid at the surface and sustain an atmosphere. If life was to exist in either moon, it would be confined to subsurface habitats.

What gives us the idea there could be life on Enceladus?

Scientists from the Southwest Research Institute (SWRI) discovered complex carbon-rich molecules from the liquid ocean beneath Enceladus’ icy surface, which makes it the only body in the Solar System besides Earth to contain all requirements for hosting life.

What about Europa?

The supposed smoothness and recent existence of Europa’s surface have led scientists to believe that a liquid water ocean exists beneath it, which could harbor life in an environment similar to Earth’s deep-ocean hydrothermal vents.

While we are still on baby steps, scientists are already planning missions to provide more in-depth analysis of both moons’ plumes and what kind of biological processes are happening there.
