An increase in remote working and online education has seen a dramatic growth of smartphone shipments all over the world up by 24% year to year - the highest since 2005. Because of this, global smartphone shipments in the first three months of 2021 summed up to a whooping 340 million units, with more and more being currently ordered in the first semester. Many wonder which is the bigger player in the smartphone market, and unfortunately for Huawei, the Chinese tech company, they are not in the list which includes:
- Samsung: The creator of the Samsung Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy A-series series has remained the largest vendor with over 77 million smartphones sold in 2021. The Korean giant is currently enjoying a 23% of the market share.
- Apple: Perhaps the most popular brand in the world, the creator of the famous iPhone has shipped 57 million units worldwide, including the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. They currently capture a 17% volume of the total sales.
- Xiaomi: The first Chinese multinational company in this list, Xiaomi has boosted its smartphone sales in the last couple of years and in 2021 they rank third in terms of shipments with 49 million units sold. They make up 15% of the market share with models like the Mi 11, Poco X3 NFC and the Mi 10T Pro.
- Oppo: By selling around 38 million smartphones, this is another Chinese company that has recently grown a lot, making up to 11% of the industry's sales. Models like the Find X2 Pro and the Reno 5 Pro 5G are some of Oppo’s most popular ones in
- VIvo: Founded in 2011 in Guangdong, China, Vivo smartphone shipments also represent 11% of the market shares. The newest company from the five has sold over 37 million units, experiencing an impressive 85 percent year-to-year this year.
